By Plane

What airport should I use to get to Amherst?

If you are traveling to Amherst by plane the closest airport is Bradley International in Windsor Locks, Connecticut (near Hartford). This airport is approximately 45 miles from the UMass campus. Logan Airport in Boston is approximately 90 miles from the UMass campus and transportation is considerably more difficult unless you rent a car.

How can I get from the Bradley Airport to Amherst?

Both airports feature car rental agencies and multiple shuttle services, including Valley Transporter (413-253-1350) and Seemo Shuttle (800-908-2829). If you are driving to campus you should obtain directions to the Campus Center, located at 1 Campus Center Way, Amherst MA 01003.

What if I wish to fly into Boston or New York?

These options can be used, but transportation from Boston to Amherst or New York to Amherst is very limited and somewhat expensive. There is a public bus service (Peter Pan Bus), but it runs infrequently during the summer. Renting a car might be the best option, if you must use the Boston or New York airports.

By Bus

The Amherst area is serviced by GreyhoundPeter Pan Bus Lines and the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority. Based on the service you select and route availabilities you should take a bus to Amherst UMass if at all possible instead of Amherst Center (Amherst Center is about 1.5 miles from the UMass Campus). Please be sure to review bus schedules and campus maps before your arrival as both the area and the campus can be confusing to navigate if it is your first time here.

By Train
There is an Amtrak stop in Amherst located about 2 miles from the UMass campus. This stop is just a platform without a ticket office or enclosed waiting area, so be sure to review bus schedules, taxi services or walking routes before your arrival.
